The English Gardens

The English Gardens are surprisingly close to the city. It was freezing under the shade of the trees, but in the clearings it's much warmer in the sun. We followed a winding path down to the Chinese Tower where there were stalls selling hand-made goods, fresh food and of course, Gluhwein. The stalls themselves are lit up with fairy lights and Christmas decorations. There were again more tables where groups of people would stand together and chat/drink/eat. They even had a merry-go-round for the kids. One minute your practically all alone on a quiet path through the trees, and then it opens out into this bustling pocket of the garden where people congregate.

The Hofgarten

It was kinda cool how the scenery kept changing as you went through the Gardens. You're welcomed by very well kept gardens at the Hofgarten, before being met by a more untamed parkland with glistening streams and natural overgrowth as you follow along the path through the English Gardens. So far we're really enjoying being able to take our time discovering unique parts of the city.

We followed up with a warm cup of coffee in a cute cafe. They understood my German, but took pity on me and spoke English when I couldn't understand their response. So far, we feel it's at least appreciated that we try. We've covered our apartment in post-it notes and labelled all our house hold items with their German names. Our landlord had a bit of a giggle.
